Every movie has one scene where you just fall in love: the lush scenery, the rustic aesthetic and the vintage feel, backed up by romantic scenery. But better than any fictional setting is Perricoota Station, which sits on the border of Victoria and New South Wales. The space evokes a deep sense of nostalgia within its halls, with the venue having roots in farming and agriculture (Merino sheep and citrus orchards). Melbourne Wedding & Bride’s Stef Grinberg sits down with the Perricoota Station Events team to discuss the advantages of heritage venues with all their gorgeous aesthetics and wonderful historical accents.

Finding a space that feels like you is one of the most daunting tasks on the wedding planning checklist. For most brides, the hunt for the perfect venue feels endless and overwhelming. The right setting can be foundational for the mood of your day, with the venue often setting the tone throughout the event space.

Scenes From The Past

Step into the history-packed, rustic venue that looks as though it belongs on the set of your favourite Wes Anderson film. Warm, moody lighting dances across the wooden beams that line the vintage Packing Shed. The venue offers picturesque, uninterrupted views of the Murray River and lush, native bushland. Elegantly landscaped, the stunning water-front space is the perfect backdrop for photos and videos of your special day. Perricoota Station is a heritage site, providing a charming atmosphere for couples to celebrate their day. This piece of history is truly magical and tying the knot at this special venue makes you feel like you’re the main character; not just of your beautiful day with your special someone, but of a cinematic masterpiece. Luxury doesn’t have to battle with warmth in this charming and inviting event space.
“When choosing a heritage venue for a ceremony and reception, couples should consider how the venue’s historic charm matches their wedding style and vision,” the Perricoota staff said.
The venue features unique architecture, exposed brick and wooden beams, holding out a piece of history to you. The team expressed their love for each special detail, “these details tell a story and give the space a soul, making the wedding feel more intimate and special,” said the team.

No Plot Twists Here

Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue, this age-old saying is known globally, passed down with each generation. As a heritage venue, Perricoota Station has you covered in the ‘old’ department.
“The station was established in 1843 by James Maiden and originally served as a large sheep and cattle run. It was also known for breeding horses for Cobb & Co coaches by the early 1900s,” said the Perricoota team.
Perricoota Stations cultural and historical significance is seen throughout the region and the state, as Cobb & Co transportation was used at the peak of the Victorian gold rush.
“Unique architecture, vintage details … rich with history and romance. You get a sense of connection to something bigger,” the team said continuing, “design elements like vintage woodwork or antique fixtures create a warm and romantic setting that feels authentic and full of character.”
The team explained the work done in transforming the Packing Shed into an event space. Reimagined as a modern Australian a la carte restaurant, the space serves a masterful blend of rustic-modern flavours and hearty cuisine.
“Inside the Packing Shed, there’s a fully stocked bar and a commercial kitchen where the in-house chef creates delicious catering for all occasions,” said the team.

That’s A Wrap! / Epilogue

No award-winning film is complete without the perfect lighting, setting the mood, tone and feel of each scene. Watch the space transform with twinkling fairy-lights or the morning sun and fall in love with the moonlit Murray River. The Perricoota team explained that picking design elements that complement the venue is crucial, saying, “think about highlighting what makes the space special without overpowering it.” Describing the atmosphere and energy of this space presents a challenge. Each exposed brick, wooden decoration and original detail has a story and reason it exists in this space. The stories from each decoration and architectural choice both inside and out are steeped in rich history. The space is just waiting for you to make your own special moments and memories, adding to the wealth of history developed here. As a historical location, the venue and other heritage listed spaces may have unique layouts and historical features that shape how the wedding day flows.
“There might be certain areas that can’t be changed or modernised, so couples might need to plan around fixed spaces for the ceremony, reception or photos. Sometimes, access routes or timing need to be adjusted because of preservation rules or the building’s design,” the team said.
In addition to the beautiful event space and restaurant, the venue also offers a variety of options to make your wedding day even more special and exciting.
“Arrive at your wedding aboard the beautiful Melbourne Paddle steamboat. We also have two stunning 1927 Chevy cars available to transport the wedding party during the ceremony,” the team excitedly announced.
