Florals are the one element that transforms a wedding into something straight from a fairytale. From ceremony to reception, their effortless beauty inspires even the simplest moments, breathing life  into every word. As we raise a glass to the happy couple, your wedding tablescape is a standout feature that lingers in guests’ minds long after the sun sets – so how do you make it truly unforgettable? Melbourne Wedding & Bride’s Josephine Day teams up with Lynne Broberg, owner and floral designer at Bespoke Creative Collection, to bring you the must-know tips and tricks in creating a mesmerising, floral tablescape.

Broberg has forever been a lover of floristry and the smiles it brings to every bride. Drawn to the stunning colours, delicate textures and subtle scents, she sees flowers as a living orchestra, setting the tone for unforgettable moments. For Broberg, blooms are the foundation of beauty and creativity, transforming each celebration into something truly poetic.

Her studio creates fresh and artificial arrangements of the highest quality. Broberg proudly works closely alongside couples, with each creation being a careful composure of artistry and detail, transforming every space with elegance and impact. “A consultation with us is more than simply ordering your wedding flowers – it’s an experience,” she details. “We take time to immerse ourselves in each couple’s vision, inviting them into our showroom where they can explore styles and select colours that reflect their story. From there, we craft florals that feel timeless, elevated and truly unforgettable.”

As every bride enters the studio, Broberg upholds that there is no greater feeling than nailing the brief, witnessing their stress melt away and eyes light up as their vision begins to take shape.

THE NON-NEGOTIABLES

We’ve all experienced that moment – when a vision lives so clearly in our mind yet feels impossible to articulate when faced with real decisions. With social media overflowing with endless inspiration, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to begin. That’s where Broberg steps in, offering her curated approach to crafting tablescapes that are both tasteful and impactful.

Her process starts with a heartfelt consultation, focused on understanding the feeling the couple wants to evoke on their day. From there, she considers the venue, theme and colour palette, ensuring that every floral detail enhances the overall atmosphere. “Brides often appreciate seeing mock-ups or sample combinations,” Broberg explains. “It’s a balance of listening closely, offering advice and creating a design that feels both personal and cohesive.” But even the  most visually stunning tablescapes can fall short if key elements are overlooked.

Broberg points out common missteps, such as neglecting guest comfort – designs that block sightlines or the crowd can hinder the dining experience. She also stresses the importance of height variation. “Without layering (low candles, medium florals, taller accents), the table can look
flat or overcrowded.” Finally, she encourages couples to think beyond the table itself, ensuring the design connects with the room, chairs and overall event aesthetic.

FLORAL COMPOSITION

Once the base design is in place, the creative process truly begins – selecting linens, tableware and surrounding décor that will bring the tablescape to life. For Broberg, the goal is to craft a table that feels effortless, elegant and inviting from every angle, striking the perfect balance between beauty and functionality. “This ensures the arrangements feel harmonious rather than competing for attention,” she says. Broberg guides her clients through a curated selection of high-quality artificial blooms, suggesting colour palettes and textures that not only complement their environment but also elevate the overall atmosphere. It’s a collaborative process resulting in a look that is reflective of the couple’s story.

However, beyond aesthetics, there are important considerations that often go unnoticed. Not all flowers are suitable for tablescapes – overly  fragrant varieties can be overwhelming or problematic for guests with allergies, and seasonality also plays a critical role in determining the ideal bloom selection. “Seasons still guide colour palettes – with soft pastels and delicate blooms evoking spring, while rich, deep, jewel hued flowers compliment the winter season. Bright and lush colours are full of life like summer, and rustic, red-orange tones represent the change of season like autumn leaves,” Broberg illustrates. For Broberg, the art of tablescaping isn’t just about making something beautiful – it’s about storytelling through colour, texture and detail, ensuring the table doesn’t just sit in the space, but truly belongs to it.

TABLESCAPE COUTURE

If you’re reading this and dreaming of recreating a stunning tablescape at your own reception, there are a wealth of beautiful trends worth exploring!

Broberg is currently drawn to the art of layered fabrics, which add depth, texture and a sense of quiet luxury to any setting. Another emerging favourite? Lampshades. These unexpected additions create an intimate, elevated atmosphere, while fruit – elegantly arranged – offers a timeless yet playful design statement. Broberg is also an  advocate for sweetheart tables, which provide a sense of privacy for the couple while acting as a visual anchor of the room.

She recalls a recent wedding where a lush green and white draped sweetheart table became the focal point, with ceremony flowers repurposed behind it to frame the couple and echo the  venue’s architecture. “The couple’s vision was specific, and the result was a tablescape that felt elegant, immersive and personal, leaving a lasting impression on both the couple and their guests,” she reflects. In another reception, she crafted a rustic, horse-themed centrepiece for an equestrian bride, complete with cowboy boots and florals.

As you embark on your floral journey, Broberg offers a final piece of advice: “Stay true to yourself, engaging with a professional, and trust the process.”
