Your wedding will be one of the biggest days of your life, but it will also be one of the most expensive. The average spend on a wedding in Australia is upwards of $30,000, but with DIY options available and small weddings on trend, it’s possible to have a beautiful wedding no matter your financial restrictions. Here are our top five tips for organising a wedding on a budget!

1.Keep Your Guest List Small

The more people coming to your wedding, the more you will have to spend. While it is unavoidable for some to have a big wedding list, because of family or tradition, try to fill those limited spots with only the truly important people in your life.

2. DIY Your Bouquets

The great thing about flowers, is that they (sometimes) literally grow on trees. You can find beautiful and unique flowers all over the place. Whether you pick the flowers yourself or buy a few bunches from a roadside stall a few days before the wedding, there are many options for beautiful bouquets without the price tag. Once you’ve put together your arrangement, tie some hessian, twine or ribbon, around the stems and you’ll have a beautiful yet cost-effective flower bouquet!

3. Don’t Book An Expensive Venue

If you’re having a summer wedding, you can enquire with your local council about a nice park in which to host your ceremony. Likewise, if you have a family member or friend with a spacious property, it doesn’t hurt to ask if they would be willing accommodate your nuptials!

4. Go Local

When booking wedding vendors such as your photographer, catering, wedding cake or flowers, be sure to first search for local suppliers and companies. While some of the larger vendors may have intruiging advertising, it’s likely that your local florist or bakery will offer you a lower rate especially if you’re planning a small wedding. Often these local services are just as good, if not better, and there’s the added benefit of helping your community thrive!

5. Keep It Simple

Weddings don’t need to be extravagant to be beautiful. Keeping your wedding simple with the decorations, venue and entertainment can help cut costs. In addition, limited decorations will ensure everyone focuses on the main reason for the event – to see you get married!
